Alpinestars has taken the wraps off its 2018 Street and Racetrack apparel range, with a few highlights coming in the expanded use of the Tech Air airbag system and a new one piece suit, developed especially for kids taking their first steps into tarmac competition.

Alpinestars has enjoyed a strong 2016-2017 model year with increased global sales that have exceeded the company’s targets, as well as racetrack success in MotoGP, World MX, AMA MX and SX, WorldSBK, MotoAmerica, and Dakar competition, to name a few. Ptfe Filter

For 2018, the company is introducing a few new products that get the proprietary Tech Air airbag vest, as well as new boots, gloves, jackets and pants for sport, touring and ADV riders.

The products featured here were shown to the assembled press at Alpinestars U.S. HQ in Torrance, CA. There is much more on the Alpinestars website, which you can get to by clicking this link.

The Yokohama Drystar Jacket and Pant are the mid-range offerings for street riding from Alpinestars. Noticeable features with the Drystar include Jet Ventilation system for excellent cooling and the Alpinestars’ proprietary Drystar laminated fabric that allows rainwater to bead off the fabric, rather than soak in and add weight.

The Yokohama Jacket is a superior multi-material jacket featuring a host of comfort features such as Alpinestars proprietary Jet Ventilation System for excellent levels of internal cooling performance. With class-leading removable shoulder and elbow protectors and the ability to upgrade to Alpinestars’ Nucleon chest and back protectors, the Yokohama allows the rider to cope the toughest of conditions. • Multi-material, laminated poly-textile chassis construction for superior levels of abrasion and tear resistance and weather performance.

Like the matching jacket, the Yokohama Pant gets the water resistant laminated fabric as well as reinforcements on the knees, butt, and thighs in case things go pear-shaped.

The Yokohama Pant is a superior multi-material pant featuring a host of comfort features such as an innovative ventilation system for excellent levels of internal cooling performance. With class-leading removable knee protectors and Alpinestars 100 percent waterproof DRYSTAR® membrane, the Yokohama allows the rider to cope the toughest of conditions.

The Hyper is Alpinestars’ entry-level street jacket, which is also available in the Stella cut for women. It’s the everyday jacket in the range, ideal for commuting and beating up every day. There is laminated fabric for water protection with the Hyper, which uses the old school separate membrane which can be rather hot once the temps start to rise. The Hyper comes with A’Stars’ bio armor, but you can upgrade to Nucleon armor if you like.

A sport touring jacket that offers excellent levels of protection against the weather and plenty of comfort thanks to its waterproof and breathable DRYSTAR® membrane and removable thermal liner, the Hyper DRYSTAR® Jacket features class-leading protective capabilities and the ability to upgrade with Alpinestars’ Nucleon CE certified chest and back protection.

– Adjustment system ensures personalized fit to rider’s body and offers improved safety by keep protections close to the body in the case of an impact or slide.

– Pre-curved sleeves and Hook and loop grip closure cuff adjustment ensures a comfortable fit and prevents sleeve riding up arm while riding.

The matching pant for the Hyper Drystar gets a poly fabric construction, new vents in the thighs and reworked stretch panels in the knees. Also available in the women’s Stella range.

An excellent and versatile all-weather sport touring pant that is packed with class-leading protection, the Hyper DRYSTAR® Pant incorporates a breathable and 100 per cent waterproof membrane plus a removable thermal lining for superb comfort whatever the weather brings.

This is a really cool, retro-style goat leather glove from the Oscar range which gets the Drystar membrane and Accordion stretch inserts on the fingers and back of the hand. The Café Divine gloves also allow you to use your phone with the touch screen compatible fabric on the index finger and thumb. It’s about time, Alpinestars!

Forming part of the OSCAR by Alpinestars Heritage collection the Café Divine DRYSTAR® Glove is constructed from a full leather chassis which incorporates both a thermal lining plus Alpinestars DRYSTAR® PERFORMANCE waterproof and breathable membrane for excellent all-weather capabilities.

The SP-1 is the sportbike rider’s jacket of choice in the Alpinestars range. It comes in only black and made from 1.3mm cow leather with large stretch panels down the side of the torso and around the shoulders. The SP-1 is also available in an Airflow version for the same price.

The SMX-S is aimed at someone looking to get into sports riding where a top of the range Supertech R boot might be a bit too much.

This is not a race boot, so it has a bit more comfort built into it for long days in the saddle like the microfiber upper construction and breathable lining and is available in black and white/black color options

With a durable microfiber upper construction for comfort and fit and incorporating a host of advanced protective features, inside and out, the SMX-S Boot features an ergonomic forefoot shaping, a breathable lining and Alpinestars’ exclusive rubber compound sole for optimized levels of support and performance.

The Jam, as is pretty obvious, is your basic street riding shoe. Constructed using a mix of suede and leather, the Jam comes with the Drystar membrane, which is claimed to be waterproof and breathable, as well as a newly designed sole for better grip on the bike. Well, about as good a grip as you can get with a flat shoe…

A street-styled riding shoe that comes in two distinctive versions, leather, and denim, Alpinestars Jam DRYSTAR® Shoe is breathable and waterproof. The Jam incorporates class-leading protection and premium comfort features, while the newly designed rubber compound sole provides excellent grip on and off the bike.

This was one of the coolest products on display at the Alpinestars 2018 product unveiling. It’s hard for kids to get a decent suit—many are either tailored adult suits or items that need to be specially made to suit their tiny frames. The Youth GP Plus was developed in the Red Bull Rookies, Asia Talent Cup and the CEV World Junior Championship in Spain and uses many of the same components featured in the top-level GP Plus suit. The Youth GP Plus is not (at this stage) compatible with the Tech Air vest, but that is something Alpinestars says they are working on.

Bringing performance technologies developed in MotoGP and World Superbikes to younger and smaller-framed riders, the Youth GP Plus Cup Leather Suit features injection-molded shoulder protection, knee sliders, and an aerodynamic back hump. Specially designed and developed to consider the specific anatomical profiles of youth/smaller-framed riders the suit has plenty of comfort features for excellent overall performance.

There’s been much discussion about when the Tech Air vests, where to get them and for how much. Here’s Alpinestars Troy Siahaan to give you the lowdown on how to get Tech Air equipped.

“The Tech-Air Race system will be available from August 28 for $1149.95,” says Siahaan. “Select dealers nationwide will carry the Tech-Air vest as well as garments, and a list of those dealers will be posted on the Alpinestars website on August 28th. Conversely, the Tech-Air Race vest will also be available through Alpinestars.com.

“As for suits and jackets, Tech-Air compatible garments will be available from any Parts Unlimited dealer, but not the vest.”

At the 2017 Red Bull MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas at Austin, TX, this year, we got a few minutes with reigning world champion, Marc Marquez, to hear how he felt about racing in the Tech Air system. You can read all about it, as well as see our detailed breakdown video of the airbag by clicking right here.

The Missile is Alpinestars’ mid-range suit and was previously not compatible with the Tech Air airbag system. That’s changed for 2018, meaning you can get into a Tech Air compatible suit for under a grand, but you still have to buy the airbag itself, adding another $1149. Still, the Missile represents pretty good value when you consider the next suit in the A’Stars line—the top of the range GP Pro—is $350 more expensive.

The Nucleon KR-Cell back protector is the latest offering for your spine from Alpinestars. We’re big fans of the A’stars back protector range, as I’ve been wearing one for the past three years and haven’t thought of changing brands as it fits me like a glove and is super durable after getting dumped time and time again in sweat.

The Nucleon is CE-certified with a new back plate and a revised waist fitment system. We’ll be testing one of these in the 2017-2018 bike testing season and will let you know how they go.

Here’s the Alpinestars blurb for Nucleon KR-Cell Back Protector below:
